A thousand year old tradition of wine growing in the region and the wines of protected geographical origin are the reasons that wines of Dubrovnik-Neretva Region should have its rightful place on the wine lists of restaurants. To work on the promotion of wine tourism and wine tourism network was the main goal of the project WiNe.
Grape and wine production has great economical, social and strategic importance in Dubrovnik-Neretva Region, like it did throughout the history, since Republic of Dubrovnik. Importance of Dubrovnik-Neretva County in national context is evident knowing that the first Croatian wines with protected geographical origin are from this area: Dingač (1961) and Pošip (1965, protected in 1967).
Guided by the Strategy of viticulture and winemaking, which has pointed the need for promotion of our wines and the organization of an wine festival, in 2014 year was organised first regional Dubrovnik FestiWine through project WiNe. It was held in April in Dubrovnik, with more than 60 exhibitors and it was organised in 2015 too.
Ten winemakers from Dubrovnik-Neretva Region were participating study trip to Poreč, to wine fest Vinistra, where they exhibited their wines. Also, at Vinistra it was organized special winetasting of Dubrovnik-neretva regional wines.
It is established Tematic Touristic Road 'Neretva Valey of Life', which is marked by tourist signs. This road gather rural tourism offer, includin vinemakers of Nereva i Komarna. The tourist offer of both regions was compiled in a joint publication, in which was presented winemakers and other tourist offer in the region, as well as a common map for easy orientation in area.
Museum of wine in Putnikovići, Pelješac was renovated and construction works of preparation of interior was carried out. Through this project it were held education workshops, lectures, conferences and also three-days course for sommeliers, which had a great interest among restaurateurs and hoteliers. This affected level of service when it comes to serving wine in Dubrovnik restaurants.
Also, it was filmed a promo movie about winemaking. Activities that have been implemented have contributed to raising awareness of the importance of wine as an indigenous product of these areas, as well as his role in the tourist industry.
Project Wine is implemented in partnership with the Tourist Organization of Cetinje and it is established a joint tourism wine route.
